My Winter Skin Care Routine

Who suffers from dry skin in the winter time? I’m going to say most of you reading this. I’ve always had a difficult time with my skin; right from about 14 years old and on. I suffered from hormonal acne and probably have tried everything on the market. I’ve had prescriptions from my doctor, creams, pills, and finally going on ‘the pill’. It was the only way I discovered could keep my hormones in check and prevent future breakouts.

In my teen years, I never really had a skin care routine. Just wash and then moisturize before my makeup application. I never used sunscreen (which I’m regretting as I get older), but LOVED tanning. The years of that are slowly paying me back. But I have to say, for my age I don’t think my skin looks too bad.

During the winter, my skin tends to get very dry. Especially in my apartment and at work. I recently bought a humidifier for my bedroom and I couldn’t be more relieved. Every morning, I wake up and can feel the difference.

So you’re probably wondering, how do I  keep my skin moisturizd in addition to that? Continue reading as I go through my morning and night skin care routine:

Morning Routine:

– Wash my face with Sunday Riley cleanser

– Spritz with Herbivore hydrating mist

– If my eyes are really puffy, I’ll apply The Ordinary Caffeine Solution

– Derma-E eye cream under my eyes (Just a dab. A little goes a long way)

– Finish with Rose hydrating moisturizer

Evening Routine: (After removing my makeup)

– Wash my face with Sunday Riley cleanser

– Apply Fresh’s Black Tea Age-Delay Firming Serum (This can be used in the morning, but I find it ‘tacky’, so I prefer to just use it at night)

– Finish with Glossier’s Coconut Balm on my lips (I like to keep them hydrated at night. Also this is such an amazing little product. It’s literally universal, so I use it on my elbows, knuckles, anywhere where I need a little extra moisturizing)

Most of these products can all be found at Sephora. The best part about that is their Beauty Insider program; it allows you to accumulate points and redeem them for free products and services. Some of the products I use are a little on the high end. The Sunday Riley cleanser for example; it was a splurge purchase and I may or may not buy it again. But I really like the way it makes my skin feel afterwards.

Also once a week, I like to do a moisturizing face mask. For this I’ll stock up on inexpensive ones from Shoppers Drugmart. I find their life brand products are pretty good and because they’re so cheap, it allows me to splurge on other things.

So, what’s your skin care routine? Any products you recommend I try? Share your comments below!

Oh boy! I’ve got lots of products Ive been loving lately, some of my favourites:

Dermologica – Multivitamin power recovery masque – I leave it on overnight and my skin looks great in the morning
Peter Thomas Roth – 24k gold eye patches – Im paranoid about fine lines around the eyes!!! (i know, I know, its inevitable)
    Glossier – Priming Moisturizer Rich
Osea – Essential Hydrating Oil – I got this in my winter Rachel Zoe Box of Style and I’ve been loving it! I put this on before I put on my makeup and my skin looks nice and dewy (sounds weird to put oil on in the morning but it works and my skin doesn’t look so dry, i have the same dry skin issues you do!)

I just used up my bottle of Caffeine solution, I think I will be repurchasing!
